18 - HDR Images

Canon 40D, 10-22mm at various mm, iso200, all with CLP, all hand held. Shot in (AEB) auto exposure bracket mode -2,0,+2. Then processed in Photomatrix 3.0, no further processing.

I like extending the dynamic range of my sensor and have been experimenting with HDR processing. These three images were shot on a cloudless day around 1:00pm. As you can see from the watermark on the images I'm using the trial version of Photomatrix Pro 3.0.

So far I tried CS3, Dynamic Photo HDR and Photomatrix 3.0. I like this program the best so far.

I would love any comments, experience, likes, dislikes, etc...

Pretty good, Mike. The results in your three photos look pretty realistic.

I know HDR programs have got to be capable of realistic results, but I think a lot of users just don't know what they're doing yet and produce photos that do not look real.

Have you tried Tufuse? It's a free program that's easy to use. I wrote a blog entry describing my first serious use of the program:

You might want to try it out.

Mike, these look great. I have not tried HDR, but several members of our local camera club use the HDF function in CS3. Yours look more real.

J.L.T. & PNF, Thanks for commenting and following my blog. Your support inspires my photography. Thanks
TJ, Thanks for being here and for your informative comments, you have helped my photography even before we meet. I will take a look at Tufuse. I would love for you to try Photomatrix Pro 3.0 Batch process feature. I took another 100 images yesterday all in harsh lighting all bracketed at -2,0,+2. I used the Batch process to process all at one time. Took about 40 minutes of unattended computer time, when finished I had about 75% usable images.
Bob, Thanks for commenting, give Photomatrix Pro 3.0 a try (free to try). I've never gotten good results from CS3's HDR.
